So it begins – we have just over 6 weeks to get the base ready for our pizza oven. The oven is ordered and scheduled to be delivered so we have no choice but to work fast.
Since the pool and pond area was built up, we have to dig down to get below the frost line and to reach solid soil. It’s probably a huge overkill but we want to make sure the foundation is strong and don’t want cracks to develop over time. I decided to do a monolithic pour foundation. The footing structure is down about 22 inches. the slab portion will be 8 inches thick. A lot more work (and cost) than just framing a 4 inch foundation on packed soil, but, it makes us more comfortable!
